Knowing Your Basic Waveforms

Being new to electronic music production , you must have faced problems during synthesis. Rather than pondering over a random waveform , see below what is what and how to use it the best way out.

   Sine :
A sine is the most basic waveform that can be found , with only a single harmonic frequency. A sine can be used in many places due to this virtue of it.It can be used to make sub-bass sounds , bass sounds , emulations of a piano , blown bottle sound , whistles and much more.

   Triangle :
A triangular waveform is a much smoother waveform than
the rest of the waveforms. It finds usage in many places where smooth pads and soundscapes are needed.

   Square :
A square is mainly used in places where a hollow or woody sound is needed. A detuned square is almost the basis of any wind instrument emulation. It can also be used to create those famous "chip" or gaming console sounds.

   Pulse :
A pulse is also a square wave , but technically have a lower duty cycle in their wave. Pulse is generally used to emulate the lead sounds those old analog instruments. The main use of pulse is to make leads.

   Saw :
Practically , a saw is the most important waveform. It is such a waveform , which have an
equal presence in many bands of frequency , making it the most richesh sounding. It can be used to make basslines , leads , chords , plucks , pads , atmospheres , soundscapes , drones , viruses and distorted baselines for specific genres. Name something , saw can be used for it easily , but , the most famous implementation of saw is as those driving sounds of the supersaw leads , which are generally detuned 7-voice oscillators. It was the mainstream sound from the very beginning of rave , trance , and even pop music of today

   Noise :
A noise is just a randomness , which is mainly used to give some extra spice or texture to the main sound. It is also used to make uplifters and downlifters and to give a warm colour to the analog instrument emulations. It can also be used to make some short percussive noise , like closed high hats.
