Nokia 8 : The Perfect Powerhouse

Nokia has been playing in the Android environment for quite some time now, and is planning to make a huge comeback with the Nokia 8. But, will it ? Let's find out.

The Body
The Nokia 8 is a gorgeous looking piece of device, whose looks and feels maintain the same superior aesthetics as flaunted by previous Nokia devices. This is exactly as expected as a flagship from a brand that treats all their devices as flagships. Crafted from a 6000 series single block of aluminium along with a precise mirror finish, it is sure to turn heads. The back of the device has a slight curve as well for a better grip in the hands especially with that slippery glass back.

The Camera
The Nokia 8 follows the 2017 flagship standards, and hence has a dual-camera setup, both of the lenses a Carl Zeiss offering, without any camera bump. One of the lens is a standard one, with the other being a colour sensitive monochrome lens. The front camera is a wide angle sensor. Both the front and the dual rear lens system comprises of 13 MP shooters. One amazing feature, which Nokia calls Dual-sight mode, thrives to offer a camera fusion between the front and the rear cameras, the outcome of which is an image compiled by the pictures taken by both the sensors, simultaneously.

The Display
It has a non-conventional 5.3" screen size, protected by 2.5 D Corning Gorilla glass 5, offering bright and colour-accurate 2K display. The only drawback, it doesn't have near bezel-less display, yet, considering how that's a privilege for companies with greater R&D fundings.

Everything Else
With Qualcomm's best, the phone is supposed to run heavy tasks in an instant. However, it might seem that the 835 might be held back a bit with 4 GB of RAM, in a world where one could get phones with double the volatile memory offered. Still, 4 GB RAM is more than necessary for the Nokia 8 to hold it's own in many speed tests. All this is powered by a mere 3090 MAh battery, which is frankly, quite insufficient in such times. Also, Nokia is promising to provide periodic updates for the Nokia 8, powered by Android Nougat 7.1.1. Another note-worthy feature is the OZO spatial 360° audio reception during 4K video recording to provide crystal clear 360° all around sound delivery. And, it also has a fingerprint sensor, along with our beloved headphone jack.

The Verdict
HMD Global's glorious attempt to bring back the legendary Finnish company in everybody's hands, as the people's favorite phone it was a generation ago. Nokia 8 does manage to tick most of the correct boxes, but somehow is unable to keep it's standards, somewhat reasonable. With pre-order available in Germany and Australia at EUR 577 and AUD 899 respectively. In India, it is expected to cost ₹45000+, Nokia 8 might not be a privilege for most people, with perhaps most of the previous fans of the cellular networking conglomerate being disappointed. In any case, we are all ready to welcome Nokia with open arms.
